{"id":61,"date":"2023-10-22T07:13:07","date_gmt":"2023-10-22T07:13:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/iasquest.com\/?p=61"},"modified":"2026-02-11T19:34:54","modified_gmt":"2026-02-11T19:34:54","slug":"minimum-support-prices","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kingmakersiasacademy.com\/current-affairs\/minimum-support-prices\/","title":{"rendered":"Minimum Support Prices"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>IN NEWS:<\/strong> Centre raises minimum support prices for Rabi crops, farmers unhappy<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA)<\/strong> has increased the Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for all Rabi crops for the financial year 2024-25.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The increase for wheat, the major Rabi crop, is \u20b9150 per quintal and the new price will be \u20b92,275.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The highest increase in MSP compared with last year is for lentils (masur) at \u20b9425 per quintal (new price: \u20b96,425 per quintal) followed by rapeseed and mustard at \u20b9200 per quintal (new MSP: \u20b95,650 per quintal).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For wheat and safflower, the increase is \u20b9150 per quintal (\u20b92,275 and \u20b95,800 per quintal, respectively). For barley (new MSP: \u20b91,850) and gram (new MSP: \u20b95,440), the increase is \u20b9115 and \u20b9105 per quintal, respectively.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>MSP did not match the increase in input costs. Fertilizers and diesel prices have increased.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&nbsp;MSP Crops<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Government announces minimum support prices (MSPs) for <strong>22 mandated crops<\/strong> and <strong>fair and remunerative price (FRP) for sugarcane.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The mandated crops are <strong>14 crops of the kharif<\/strong> season, <strong>6 rabi crops<\/strong> and <strong>two other commercial crops<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&nbsp;The lists of crops are as follows<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Cereals (7)<\/strong> &#8211; paddy, wheat, barley, jowar, bajra, maize and ragi<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Pulses (5)<\/strong> &#8211; gram, arhar\/tur, moong, urad and lentil<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Oilseeds (8)<\/strong> &#8211; groundnut, rapeseed\/mustard, toria, soyabean, sunflower seed, sesamum, safflower seed and niger seed \u25cf Raw cotton \u25cf Raw jute \u25cf Copra \u25cf De-husked coconut \u25cf Sugarcane (Fair and remunerative price) \u25cf Virginia flu cured (VFC)
