{"id":582,"date":"2023-12-15T11:29:39","date_gmt":"2023-12-15T11:29:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/iasquest.com\/?p=582"},"modified":"2026-02-11T19:26:15","modified_gmt":"2026-02-11T19:26:15","slug":"74-indians-could-not-afford-healthy-diet-in-2021-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kingmakersiasacademy.com\/current-affairs\/74-indians-could-not-afford-healthy-diet-in-2021-report\/","title":{"rendered":"74% Indians could not afford healthy diet in 2021: report"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Regional Overview of Food Security and Nutrition 2023<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The<strong> Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO)<\/strong> of the United Nations released the Regional Overview of Food Security and Nutrition 2023: Statistics and Trends report on Tuesday, December 13, 2023. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The report focuses on the Asia Pacific region, with a particular emphasis on India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Rising food costs, if not matched by rising income, would lead to more people being unable to afford a healthy diet.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cIf food costs rise at the same time incomes fall, a compounding effect occurs that can result in even more people unable to afford healthy diets\u201d.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>During the pandemic and the <strong>\u201c5Fs\u201d crisis<\/strong> \u2013 <strong>food, feed, fuel, fertilizer, and finance <\/strong>\u2013 the Asia Pacific region witnessed harrowing statistics.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Asia and the Pacific region accounts for half of the world\u2019s severe food insecurity, with more women than men being food insecure.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cSouthern Asia showed higher prevalence of severe food insecurity compared with the other subregions, and it is in Eastern Asia where the lowest prevalence of severe food insecurity was observed.
