{"id":538,"date":"2023-12-14T06:53:20","date_gmt":"2023-12-14T06:53:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/iasquest.com\/?p=538"},"modified":"2026-02-11T19:27:13","modified_gmt":"2026-02-11T19:27:13","slug":"project-artha-ganga","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kingmakersiasacademy.com\/current-affairs\/project-artha-ganga\/","title":{"rendered":"Project ARTHA Ganga"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Arth Ganga is an initiative added recently to the <strong>Namami Ganga Program<\/strong> launched by the Government in 2014.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It was decided in the meeting of <strong>National Ganga Council (NGC)<\/strong> held on 14th December 2019 to launch a new concept as the name Arth Ganga, which is a sustainable and viable economic development model to strengthen the river-people connect through an economic bridge.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Prime minister first introduced the concept during the first National Ganga Council meeting in Kanpur in 2019, where he urged for a shift from Namami Gange, the Union Government\u2019s flagship project to clean the Ganga, to the model of Arth-Ganga.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Arth-Ganga <\/strong>focuses on the <strong>sustainable development of the Ganga<\/strong> and its surrounding areas, by focusing on economic activities related to the river. At its core, the Arth-Ganga model seeks to use economics to bridge people with the river.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Accordingly, it was decided that the Namami Gange mission should lead the concept of Arth Ganga with the involvement of different ministries\/departments and other stakeholders, institution &amp; community organization. So it was added as a vertical of Namami Ganga Program, in addition to the <strong>4 verticals<\/strong> \u2013 \n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Nirmal Ganga, <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Aviral Ganga, <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Jan Ganga,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Gyan Ganga, existing till then.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Six pillars <\/strong>of Arth-Ganga identified are: \n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Promotion of Natural Framing on 5 kms band either side of River Ganga; <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Monetisation and reuse of Treated water and sludge from the STPs; <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Improvement of Livelihood opportunities, particularly for women; <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Promotion of Tourism and Cultural heritage; <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>People\u2019s Participation and Building of capacities and institutions. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Implementation of these initiatives is aimed to develop a sustainable development model with focus on economic activities related to river Ganga.
