{"id":536,"date":"2023-12-14T06:44:34","date_gmt":"2023-12-14T06:44:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/iasquest.com\/?p=536"},"modified":"2026-02-11T19:27:18","modified_gmt":"2026-02-11T19:27:18","slug":"urban-infrastructure-development-fund","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kingmakersiasacademy.com\/current-affairs\/urban-infrastructure-development-fund\/","title":{"rendered":"URBAN INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT FUND"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The finance minister, in her budget speech for Financial Year 2023-24, presented a vision for Amrit Kaal and emphasized on seven priorities of the Union Budget \u2013 <strong>\u2018Saptarishi\u2019<\/strong> for an empowered and inclusive economy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Against this backdrop, the stage was set for a new fund i.e <strong>Urban Infrastructure Development Fund <\/strong>(UIDF) established through Priority Sector Lending Shortfall and to be used by Public Agencies to create urban infrastructure in Tier 2 &amp; Tier 3 cities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>This fund will be managed by National Housing Bank and has been operationalised with an initial corpus of Rs.10,000 crore.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>UIDF aims to supplement efforts of the State Governments\/UTs for urban infrastructure development work implemented through Public\/State Agencies, Municipal Corporations, Urban Local Bodies in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities by providing a stable and predictable source of financing.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It allows for pooling of resources and expertise, enabling creation of comprehensive infrastructure solutions that address the unique needs of each urban area.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Eligible Activities for UIDF shall be aligned to the Missions &amp; programmes of the <strong>Ministry of Housing &amp; Urban Affairs (MoHUA).<\/strong> These shall focus on basic services like Sewerage and Solid Waste Management, Water Supply and Sanitation, etc. Impact oriented projects may be prioritized.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The list of some of the eligible activities are as under:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Water Supply &amp; Sanitation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Solid Waste Management<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Construction of roads (excluding maintenance works), Over bridges, grade separators, underpasses<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Comprehensive Area Development Projects<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Local Area Plan for de-congestion<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Heritage Conservation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Town Planning Schemes for greenfield development<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Eligible Activities for availing loans under the UIDF are aligned with the Missions and programmes of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, with a focus on basic services like sewage and Solid Waste Management, water supply and sanitation, construction and improvement of drains\/storm water drains.
