The Written Examination is the second phase of the three phases of recruitment process of the Group 2 & 2A exams conducted by the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) to recruit candidates into the Group 2 & 2A services in the Government of Tamil Nadu. The written Examination consists of two papers which are both descriptive in nature with Paper-I evaluated out of a 100 marks while paper-II being evaluated out of 300 marks. The marks scored in Paper- I have no impact on the final marks of the examination as the Paper is designed to test the language ability of the candidates but the candidates must attain the minimum marks required for their Paper-II to be evaluated. Both the papers have a time limit of 3 hours each. The final merit list for Group 2A posts is prepared from the marks attained in the Paper-II alone while the marks of the personality test is taken into account only for those candidates who have attained the minimum cutoff marks and want to appear for the Interview for recruitment into the Group 2 posts.
Syllabus for written Examination:
- Paper – I: English to Tamil Translation and vice versa, Precise Writing, comprehension, hint developments, Essay writing in Thirukkural, Letter Writing (official).
- Paper – II: General Studies ( Degree Standards)
Since the main Examination is descriptive in nature the aspirants must develop the habit of formulating their understanding of the subjects into words in a presentable manner. This requires right mentorship and regular assessment of the quality of the answer writing capability of the aspirants.
